20 februarie 2022, 166 de ani de la dezrobirea romilor

February 20, 2022, 166 years since the emancipation of the Roma

Sunday marked 166 years since Barbu Dimitrie Ştirbei, ruler of Romania, promulgated the "Legislation for the emancipation of all Gypsies from the Romanian Principality", thus marking the last legal step towards the emancipation of the Roma in the Romanian Principalities. The day of February 20 represents the historical moment that opened the way to the respect of human values in the Romanian space.
"Together, we can concretely contribute to improving the quality of life of those in marginalized communities, ensuring everyone access to fundamental rights.
It is necessary to support the development of Roma women, strengthen the education of Roma children and maintain a permanent dialogue with community representatives.
Romanian citizens must enjoy respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, and human rights, regardless of their ethnicity.
The Ministry of Investments and European Projects makes all the necessary efforts to capitalize on good practices in the field of social inclusion and to eliminate all prejudices and stereotypes regarding Roma communities. We want European funds to be an important element for achieving the objectives of the new strategic framework for equality, inclusion and participation.
Cohesion policy funds are the key instruments for supporting anti-discrimination actions, those regarding residential and school desegregation and ensuring access to basic services favorable to inclusion.
A series of Operational Programs such as the one for Inclusion and Social Dignity, Health, Education and Employment, will implement the measures adopted in the national strategy for the inclusion of Roma until 2027", stated the lady Widow Cecilia, deputy general secretary within MIPE and coordinator of the National Contact Point for Roma.
