February 21 – International Mother Language Day (UNESCO)
Since 1999, every year on February 21, we celebrate International Mother Language Day. The mother tongue is not only a means of interaction and understanding between different peoples, but a factor of unity in diversity, an opportunity for awareness of cultural traditions and above all, a link to facilitate access to education promoting the importance of using mother tongues in the first school years.
The National Contact Point for Roma promotes education in the mother tongue of children belonging to different national minorities, this element contributing to the development of communication skills in the mother tongue.
On this occasion, we would like to bring the highest considerations to all teachers who encourage multicultural education.
